Thoughts...........some ideas we are working on

Not all of our ideas are realised as projects straight away but we still like to keep working on them - here are a few which are on the go.......

Electric Car Blog

We decided that an electric car would support our environmental policy and so we bought a Nissan Leaf ( made in Sunderland) in February 2014. here is a link to our new blog about life in the electric lane http://gedleaf2.blogspot.co.uk/

Roof Garden

Ged has created a roof garden on our garage roof where we can now grow potatoes, runner beans, courgettes and fruit. It's a small contribution to our 'green policy' and is supported by a well established wormery.

Moths

We are developing a collection of moth kites which are used to create an outdoor installation. So far there are thirteen of them and in 2013, they have flown at Berck-sur-Mer in France, Cervia in Italy, Nozstock Festival and Bristol International Kite Festival in the UK.

Starzebo developments

We took the Starzebo to Nozstock Festival ( in Bromyard, Herefordshire) in 2013 where it made a great base for family kitemaking activities. Also got great use in Cervia where many of the Drachensyndicat set up home with us for the week! We are exploring other ways to use the Starzebo.

Kites and Domes in abundance at Kenton Academy

We worked with the Maths Team at Kenton Academy to deliver three days of intensive maths related work with Year 7, 8 and 9 in July 2013. Over the three days we made 55 geodesic domes out of newspaper and over 1500 kites from plastic bags. We are developing further training packages for secondary school staff based on this work.

starzebo

In 2011 we built a star shade - which we have called a starzebo. It's a 7m wide wigwam style tent which can be used as a focal point at outdoor events and parties. We went on to build screens into each doorway so that the starzebo can now operate as a 6 screen projection centre housing projection equipment under cover within the tent. In November we were commissioned by North Tyneside Council to develop the project as part of Shimmer. Click to see a snippet of us setting it up, or go to our Vimeo page to see more of Motion Pictures at Shimmer, 2011.

Projective Collective

Together with others in Sunniside, we are setting up the Projective Collective, using projection equipment to show artists work in the outdoor environment, sometimes requiring a paint job onto the wall to help reveal the images. the photo to the right shows work by Les Opie being projected outside Studio Q as part if the final closing event of Quire 2011

Containers for Art(ists)

Like many others we see the potential of steel containers as a building block. Our proposal for Artist's studios in Sunniside is designed to be a temporary installation on a variety of sites. Our passion is to create working spaces for artists that are not only cheap but also warm! Now there is a novel concept.

Halfpipe Showers

We have developed some ideas for cold water showers using inspection chamber concrete rings sliced in half, together with individually coloured steel roller shutter sections as robust beach installations. It's a perfect marriage of two relatively mundane materials placed together to make something functional and beautiful.

Sourdough baking

We've been doing a lot of sourdough baking since christmas when we were given two forms of starter - a Californian Goldrush Sourdough Bread Starter, and a sweet sourdough friendship cake starter.

There's a lot of mis-information around about sourdough so we've been trying and testing and working out our own recipes and thoughts.
