Rachel Brewin - Landscape Images

A collection of landscape images inspired by the coast and waterways of north east England and south east Scotland.

From North Yorkshire to East Lothian the work explores an emotional connection to place through the formal language of painting and print.

The paintings originate from series’ of watercolour / drawing studies made in the field between 2006 - 2010, which were then reworked as oil paintings in the studio.

The ‘slower’ surface of canvas produces a different, more considered dynamic to the original works on paper.  With this in mind I have also used original watercolours to make prints.  Using photocopies and transfer medium to print directly onto canvas, I have found a useful lo-tech method of presenting studies as they originally appear in my notebooks.
